I'm kicking off the next back of t-shirt designs with some vintage color wheel studies reworked on groovy new t-shirt designs celebrating the amazingly colorful world around us. This first one was taken from a 1907 thesis on color study created by an unknown artist. It could have been just an exercise or a full on project, either way I found it beautiful and so I adjusted it and put it on a new tshirt design for all y'all to wear. Here is the source image along with the finished product (you can have it printed on White, Silver or Creme depending on your personal preference). Enjoy!!!! The full collection of new designs can be found in our Newest Designs section.

The Babbletees T-shirt Design Ethos - our Creative Processes that lead to flippin' wicked, unique
designs.
I'm often faced with this quasi-quixotic, quacktacular question and many other queer quandaries from fellow creatives. These so-called “Graphic Artists” (Umm.. just because you nefariously acquired Adobe's most glorificus (props to Buffy, yo {if anyone is actually following my dribble and knows what i'm referencing, please e-mail me for a FREE TSHIRT CODE}) software and think that doing so makes you a designer, well, IT DOESN'T! Yeah, I'm a cut-throat classically trained design snob, info-graphic-fanatic and tyrant twiddler of typography - so, like, deal and enjoy the pretty things I create for you :) that somehow our derivative work created for commercial gain is blasphemous. I say nay, nay to you.
It's quite simple – everything visually constructed in our sensory realms built using previous work of others – upon the shoulders of the amazing Graphic Design Pioneers that forged a new Fine art out of creating art with a purpose – GRAPHIC DESIGN.
In effort to further this design ethos and spur your creative process I'm going to post totally free tools, shortcuts, textures, elements or links to vast Public Domain libraries in our LIBRARY section for your enjoyment. The Library is an on-going work-in-progress so PLEASE check back for updates or let us know if you have any further free graphic design resources. Please feel free to share your creations or share further resources. Create something cool and unique out of something old – it's fun. ENJOY!!

edge of refinement, you may find just what you're looking for at

After much deliberation and feedback from our awesome customers, I've decided to rework the previous isotope design "Düsseldorf German Map T-shirt" into three new and electrically exciting new variants. The carny-liscious color scheme on Orange received the biggest reaction and, despite making me cringe and eyes quiver, so I've made that the default color/style for this design - breathing new, flippin' bright-ass light onto an old BLAH design. Check it out! Personally I love the versions on Army and Forest, but I'll have somehow get them printed in a sneaky-sneaky way as Gary is insanely busy. ENJOY!!!!

There are actual humans (we're still not totally sure about Kyle) making all of these silly BabbleTees T-shirts!
Josh Saathoff - Art Director
Josh started out pursuing Fine Art, but the universe led him to Graphic
Design as he found it the perfect way to mass-produce functional and
wearable graphic art. Saathoff, an unrealized country-boy at heart,
returned to the Hinterlands of Illinois to start BabbleTees after
being suffocated in Chicago-land’s claustrophobic vortex of hyper
consumerism.
He is a fanatical garden & landscaper - especially
dwarf conifers, ornamental grasses, native herbaceous perennials
inspired by the new wave gardening style pioneered by Piet Ouldolf
- as well as enjoying Science Fiction, hiking, golf, SimCity 4, camping
& anything involving the outdoors and designing exceedingly
idiosyncratic, unique t-shirts.
Josh loves playing with asymmetry
layouts, visual texture, contrasting forms, and analogous or other
advanced, sophisticated (often times silly) color schemes in his quirky
t-shirt designs. Josh's Tshirt designs draw highly from Art History,
especially mid-20th Century Swiss Graphic Design and International Style,
His enigmatic dreams, fascination with infrastructure & industry,
all things European, introverted daydream meanderings, and crafty
childhood memories influence his signature garment graphics.
He is responsible for running the small, but highly productive
Babbletees Art Department and corralling everyone else into a cohesive,
highly creative, and somewhat pleasantly dysfunctional company. E-mail
him: josh[at]babbletees.com with any questions/comments about our
designs or to babble about politics, deep thoughts, tabby cats or the
latest esoteric dwarf conifer.
Josh’s favorite BabbleTees are German Food Chain Diagram, Organic Chemistry-beginnings of life, Carbon Cycle, and Vintage Dutch Population Density Map (even though its brightness stops traffic and can be seen from outer space).
Gary Boggio - Production Manager
Gary joined the Babbletees team about two years ago, and has been Printing awesome graphic t-shirts as well as coordinating all aspects of production that go along with the complex graphic tee printing process. Though occasionally we find Gary on the verge of mass-frazzlement, he always remains positive even when faced with huge piles of orders.
“I really enjoy what I do. I prep, print, and ship massive amounts of shirts to people around the world on a daily basis. Some days requiring more Jet Fuel (the highly caffeinated coffee that keeps the whole company running) than others.”
“I've lived in the metropolis of Hennepin all my life. I am married with two wonderful children. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, having cookouts, bonfires and whatever else comes up. Mainly just spending a lot of my time with my kids.”
“I am a Chicago Bears/Bulls/Whitesox fan. I have a incredible passion for dogs! If I were to actually play the lottery and win some day first thing I would do is buy tons of land and build a huge Dog Rescue. I have one dog(Sandy), a Bearded Dragon (Rex), and have recently taken in a Gray Tree Frog that we have yet to name. I've also recently discovered the addicting world of Xbox 360. Though with two kids it can be hard, I try finding time to play awesome games like Gears of War, the Call of Duty games, and Left 4 Dead 2 just to mention a few. I love killing zombies!”
Feel Free to email Gary: gary[at]babbletees.com if you have any questions about BabbleTees Production or to discuss a mutual love of Zombie slaughtering!
A few of Gary's favorite shirts are Bird Flock, Flying Squirrel, and Cephalopod/Mollusk.
Kyle Saunders - Operations
An art therapist and mental health counselor (that really comes in handy working all the wack-jobs here!) by education, Kyle joined the Babbletees team after deciding to pursue his more creative side. He loves scientific, technical, and sequential illustration and has a deep fascination with the natural world. In his free time, Saunders is quite the armchair entomologist, raising dozens of tarantulas, scorpions, centipedes, and other exotic invertebrates.
Kyle is responsible for managing our warehouse, order fulfillment, customer service, and general office operations. He will be your main contact when corresponding with us via e-mail, telephone or carrier pigeon. E-mail him: kyle[at]babbletees.com with any questions you may have about our shirts, your order, or to babble about his fascinating work with cross-breeding a spider with a zebra.
Kyle's favorite shirts include Arachnid, Dino Evo, and Tree of Life.

Are you a social media junkie? Do you obsess over status updates, tweet more often then a make money at home spammer? Do you run a fashion blog, like to write about t-shirts, graphic design, or just in general cool stuff you find on the Internets?
Well, we are looking for you!
Babbletees is experimenting with a new program and are looking for a few brave testers! We want you to share your opinion with the world. In thanks, we will score you with cold hard cash that you can use at the lunch counter, or to hoard more of our aesthetically mad designs!
While we can't share the super secret particulars here, if you are interested send an email to the guy handling this. He can be reached via email at ryan(at)babbletees.com. Just give him some info about yourself - and we will pseudo-randomly select an elite group of testers from the submissions.
Join us, as we enter this brave new world!

While migrating some of Isotope's T-shirt designs onto our newly designed Babbletees site, I've come across some really wicked designs (well, at least I think they're amazing, but then again I designed them :) that never ever really sold through our old site or to our many awesome wholesale clients for whatever reason.
Shirt designs tend to be much more successful when I research and create tee graphic/text amalgamations that I would actually wear; even it means using my signature (some think overused) color schemes of teal, orange, olive/lime green and brown and redrawing yet another vintage map then combining it with obtuse text set in a fine Slab-Serif font (yay for Serifa, btw – Adrian Frutiger was a typographical god).
It seems that when I stray from my own personal aesthetic/design-intuition by adjusting a shirt design to be more mainstream or pedestrian that the product never sells. So going forward, I'm going to share a few ink/shirt color variations of a design to our amazing, quirky-tee loving followers before deciding on a final design. Here is the original design that is going to be reworked after feedback... kinda blah, eh?

First Example: The düsseldorf in 3d text over German City Map T-shirt. As you can see, I went for something subtle, tonal and perhaps too monochromatic by using varying tones of grey and white. I don't think that the ink colors or t-shirt chosen give the design the substance it needs to really succeed so, with the help/input of my fellow Babblers here at the shop, I've created numerous variations of the possible supreme awesomeness that this graphic t-shirt design could become. I know which is my favorite, but I want to see what y'all think!
Hopefully the Babbletees Art Department will be able to create more appealing Tees by utilizing this process for all our Babble-addicted Tshirt-conniseurs and patrons out there.
ALL AND ANY OF YOUR COMMENTS WOULD BE MOST HELPFUL!
