Something old, something new, something borrowed, something ELECTRIC-BLUE & CRAZY ORANGE!

Posted by Joshua Saathoff on July 13, 2011

While migrating some of Isotope's T-shirt designs onto our newly designed Babbletees  site, I've come across some really wicked designs (well, at least I think they're amazing, but then again I designed them :) that never ever really sold through our old site or to our many awesome wholesale clients for whatever reason.

Shirt designs tend to be much more successful when I research and create tee graphic/text amalgamations that I would actually wear; even it means using my signature (some think overused) color schemes of teal, orange, olive/lime green and brown and redrawing yet another vintage map then combining it with obtuse text set in a fine Slab-Serif font (yay for Serifa, btw – Adrian Frutiger was a typographical god).

It seems that when I stray from my own personal aesthetic/design-intuition by adjusting a shirt design to be more mainstream or pedestrian that the product never sells. So going forward, I'm going to share a few ink/shirt color variations of a design to our amazing, quirky-tee loving followers before deciding on a final design. Here is the original design that is going to be reworked after feedback... kinda blah, eh?

Original Grey Tonal Boring Isotope T-shirt Dusseldorf German Map Text Tee

First Example: The düsseldorf in 3d text over German City Map T-shirt. As you can see, I went for something subtle, tonal and perhaps too monochromatic by using varying tones of grey and white. I don't think that the ink colors or t-shirt chosen give the design the substance it needs to really succeed so, with the help/input of my fellow Babblers here at the shop,  I've created numerous variations of the possible supreme awesomeness that this graphic t-shirt design could become. I know which is my favorite, but I want to see what y'all think!

Hopefully the Babbletees Art Department will be able to create more appealing Tees by utilizing this process for all our Babble-addicted Tshirt-conniseurs and patrons out there.

ALL AND ANY OF YOUR COMMENTS WOULD BE MOST HELPFUL!

Hello,

I have been to your Etsy shop a few times. There are numerous T-shirts that I like for friends of ours, for my husband… and for myself… Due to the fact this is about the public’s preferences for colours of T-shirt group they like… I like the Electric Blue & Orange Tones. The details are much more defined as well as pronounced. The details with the Electric Blue & Orange Tones is quite striking from a distance and not flat at all… whilst the lime green is just much too flat and lost(?)… interminable… If I saw someone wear the Lime Green for designs such as the ones demonstrated, I just couldn’t bring myself to ask the wearer of the shirt to ‘come closer’ so the details would show more… Now the Carny-Licious Explosion would be rather common with a specific age group… Now of course anyone at any age of course would wear anything they like to wear, (At least I would hope so!)… However, this particular style I would personally think is geared more towards the younger age group, of course towards artists, and the likes… The Wildcard group… I’ve got two-minds about it… for me very personally, it’s I either like it, or I simply do not care for it… it’s quite aptly named, “Wildcard”…

BTW, I greatly admire your ‘new’ ‘Vintage’ looking colours of T-shirts… your vintage creme shirt is a lovely colour… We buy a lot of specific brand because of the colours of their clothing and items that they have… Name of company I’m referring to is, LIG. Their sage green, washed (very decent) blues which is more vintage’y’ than washed… etc… is all the rage the past few years and still continues to be exceedingly popular.

I would however just love to see V-Neck non-fitted T-Shirts. Fitted T-shirts/Shirts do not sell anywhere near what non-fitted shirts sell… I do not buy any shirts that aren’t decent V-Neck shirts. Some of the v-neck shirts are labeled v-neck shirts when they really aren’t quote/unquote proper ‘V-Neck’ shirts… the real ‘short’ or perhaps ‘super small or ’lower case v-neck shirts just have slight opening so it doesn’t resemble that of a ‘crew neck’ – look.

I have to constantly make a cut and ‘tear’ the cut with my hands to have a V-Neck opening the same size as the length of your hand… I simply measure from wrist to tip of my fingertips (not nails)…. Sometimes I’ll use my Serger to give it a decent look… otherwise I only wear the ‘snipped/torn’ DIY V-neck t-shirts at home. I wouldn’t be caught alive with such a shirt that I’ve done myself out of the house. No….

It’s upsetting to constantly see great artists such as “Babbletees” produce fine quality wearable artwork… but at the same time, it’s so frustrating for women who wish to look feminine, and yet casual, not be able to purchase the T-shirts because they’re very masculine looking. There are V-necks in quarter-sleeve styles, V-necks that some like fitted, and there are V-necks t hat are unfitted which is personally my (personal preference)… there are so many choices… and sure, they all might cost a little extra… so be it… I for one am willing to pay for quality wearable art clothing that Babbletees obviously do for themselves and for the public.

I will continue to look at Babbletee’s Etsy Shop to see if there are choices for various styles of T-shirts.

Please continue with the fabulous work you continue to do!

Dearest Frazzle Dazzle,

It would appear that Mauve V-necks are this year’s Hotness and I will most certainly offer this design on one. Thanks for your comment and try not to get too frazzled at the carnival this weekend.
